Kids arguing outside my damn window and psychological inference
On Thursdays I have a day off of work, just to chill out and recover. I think the day is necessary as I usually spend up to seven hours in front of a computer screen clicking around in Illustrator. As a self proclaimed designer I feel a day off from a concept is a good way to come back at it with tons of energy and not become blown out by the process of creating the final concept and then having someone asking you to change it… its best to stop and ask for feed back before coming at any one finality.
Anyways the apartment next door has a young couple and they are in the process of moving out. Naturally, they have put quite a bit of their belongings out on the sidewalk and in various nooks outside of their apartment. Earlier today they had put a red mountain bike outside. I didn’t know the bike was up for taking, or I would have taken it
. But, these two middle school looking kids come by and begin arguing over the bike.
There is a bigger pudgier kid wearing a yellow shirt and black shirts. He immediately claims the bike as his and sits on the seat. The skinnier boy, wearing a white shirt and jeans begins to scream and holler for help. There is a coffee shop next door to where this event is occurring. I guess the skinnier kid was hoping that someone would come outside and assist. He skinnier kid begins crafting a story that the bigger kid has stolen the bike from him. I record two people walking by. The first instance is a older man with a bunch of face stubble, he waves the skinnier kid away as the skinnier kid pleas for assistance. I assume the guy is in a rush, but when the second lady walks by the skinnier kid screams again and the lady shakes him off.
This point am I heavily intrigued because I know there is some social psychological mechanics churning here. I almost have the urge to go outside and resolve the conflict before it spirals out of control. But the bigger kid begins to ride off with the bike and the younger one picks up a golf club (which has too been left out for grabs by the moving couple) and begins to hit the back tire of the bike. I see two more people ride past very fast on bikes and I see them stare at the kids… but they keep on riding. I turn around in my chair and continue too, continue too do what I was doing.
