The Art of Expression

In Spring 2010 I took a Hybrid Art class at Brown University taught by Richard Fishman and Ian Gonsher. This is my final project for the class in which Zach Caldwell, another student in the class, and I  were given three weeks to produce a final project on the topic of “Situational Spaces.” We settled on the idea of creating a black and white abstract world where language had fallen apart. We took a room in the corner of Brown’s Tockwotton building then deconstructed it (removing the cieling, and painting all of the walls white), next we put up the soft fish scales and began painting in black and thinking about our new world.  The result was a gesamkunstwerk or hope there of.

Hybrid Art is a great class and had me thinking of art in terms of concepts. The result of Hybrid Art is a series of installations and explorations of different materials.

zigzagolysis
Zigzagolysis is a project I made during my my 4th semester in a silkscreening class. I searched for zigzags in nature and made zig zag clothing. I also created a series of prints that I have yet to scan in. This work explored what the zig zag communicated when placed on clothing. I found that zig zag communicated a sense of danger and humor about the wearer.

Visual Activation Study

Done as a final project for a Contemporary Art History Class during my 4th semester. The goal of the video is the activate the viewer. The video is inspired by the Russian Suprematist Malevich and Hans Richter’s Rhythmus 21.
